Product Description

When life takes a hard turn and keeps getting harder, how do you keep moving forward?

At forty-seven, Louise Ann Gibson never imagined God would make her a runner. But running became the training ground He used to prepare her for a far more demanding race—the relentless journey of walking with her daughter through chronic mental illness. What began as a hobby turned into a lifeline, teaching her resilience, perseverance, and the unshakable truth that God is always present, even in the darkest miles.

In The 12th Mile: When Hard Becomes Harder Still, Louise Ann weaves humor, heartbreak, and hard-won wisdom into a memoir-style reflection on faith and endurance. With raw honesty, she invites readers to discover how physical movement, spiritual perseverance, and God’s presence intersect when life does not let up.

Whether you are a weary parent caring for a struggling child, a sibling feeling overlooked, or an athlete searching for deeper purpose, this story reminds you that you are not alone—and that the “harder still” may be where God’s most powerful work takes place.

Take courage. Fix your eyes on Jesus. And run your 12th mile with hope.

Louise Ann Gibson never expected to become a runner at forty-seven—but God used the discipline of running to prepare her for a much greater race: navigating her daughter’s long battle with chronic mental illness while facing her own epilepsy diagnosis. Out of these experiences came The 12th Mile: When Hard Becomes Harder Still, a memoir-style resource that blends story, faith, and practical encouragement for weary parents, caregivers, and anyone enduring seasons that won’t let up.  Drawing from more than a decade of “boots on the ground” caregiving, Louise Ann writes with humor, honesty, and deep faith. Her work offers both empathy and new perspectives on resilience, perseverance, and God’s steadfast presence in suffering. A former math teacher, Louise Ann has also written and taught lessons for schools, churches, support groups, mission work, and military bases.  Passionate, relational, and committed, she believes that even “ordinary” families have extraordinary stories of God’s care to tell. Louise Ann lives in Michigan and delights in encouraging others to look up, trust God’s timing, and find hope in their own “12th mile.”
