In this highly creative approach to problems all women face today and in varying degrees throughout their lives, Wilbee identifies six choices women have when beleaguered by conflict and challenge. She partners six biblical women with characters from The Wizard of Oz, naming choices for Innocent, Orphan, Pilgrim, Martyr, Warrior, and Wizard. She then skillfully weaves in characters from other stories and tales, accounts of women from history and today, and experiences from her own life to illustrate how these choices empower women in difficult times, moving them from want to abundance—for themselves and others.

In this highly creative approach to problems all women face today and in varying degrees throughout their lives, Wilbee identifies six choices women have when beleaguered by conflict and challenge. Beginning with Eve the Innocent, Wilbee asserts that while some of us might want to go back to the garden of Eden, where innocence dwells, no one can. It’s only by making choices to tame our dragons—and by walking the metaphorical yellow brick road of our inner journeys—that we can, and do, find the happily ever after of our fairy tales and the abundant life Jesus promises us all.

Each chapter concludes with a motivational section that includes journaling pages, “Something to Ponder,” and prayers for courage and hope.

Life includes conflicts never expected, not imagined, and Taming the Dragons is a powerful book for navigating life’s challenges. I’ve read Brenda’s book twice. Her stories and examples are relatable. Her wisdom and insight will empower; her honesty will encourage. Brenda will meet you where you’re at with God’s truth, his love and hope, his direction and ability to transform. Yes, a powerful book and one I highly recommend.

This is an amazing book! While reading through the different choices we have on how to respond to conflict and pain, my understanding of my own journey has increased tremendously. I could look back with gratitude and fresh revelation and see myself as an Orphan, Pilgrim, Martyr, Warrior, and Wizard. This book brings freedom and fresh hope, it is a powerful encouragement not only for women but for everybody to get out of the victim role and choose wisely and feely how to deal with their dragons. I love the inspiring stories, included in the book. Brenda is a fantastic storyteller! I can highly recommend this book.

  3. Jennifer Clark

As women, whether it’s instinct, expected, or we’re taught to, we often look for someone stronger to help when faced with difficulties. That, or we bury our feelings and go on anyway. Brenda Wilbee’s Taming The Dragons empowers us all to be our own heroes, use our own God-given strength and intelligence to step past the pain and heal ourselves.

    RIVETING STORIES
Brenda used gripping life stories to punctuate her analysis of life issues of women. She references “The wizard of Oz,” bible stories, tales from history, and personal stories to illustrate her points. Exercises are included to allow the reader to build their own road map to navigate the land mines we all plow through. Gut wrenching and charming, it’s hard to put down.

Hard times and difficult situations are part of life, and when they come it’s easy to feel stuck and powerless. But in Taming the Dragons, Brenda Wilbee shows us that we don’t have to be stuck, we have the power to choose which actions to take and which attitudes to have. I learned more about historic women while reading this book, and certain passages brought scenes and quotes from the show Once Upon a Time to mind. There are journaling pages at the end of each section to help you *think* and get the most out of it. This book is an enjoyable, eye-opening read.
