The mane is what sets a lion apart and gives him strength, authority, and courage. Shave off a lion’s mane and he is left defenseless, fearful, and deprived of what he was meant to be. Yet, often a lioness may shave off her husband’s mane by various hurtful habits such as harsh words, disrespect, infidelity, and unforgiveness. Using candid examples from her own marriage and biblical examples, Dana Rausch addresses the effects of wrong priorities, control, looking back, finances, and attitude. Wives who knowingly or unknowingly demean their husbands will be motivated to encourage and build their husbands up, rather than devalue them.

Description

Marriage was not made to be a battleground where we snarl, fight, and attack each other. It was meant to be more like a playground where we romp and play and have fun together. Sadly, many couples can relate to a battleground instead of a playground. Why is that?

Using the example of a lion and a lioness and the different roles they were created to perform, we will compare the ground a husband and wife were called to live on. The mane is what sets a lion apart and gives him strength, authority, and courage. Shave off a lion’s mane and he is left defenseless, fearful, and deprived of what he was meant to be. Yet, often, a wife can shave off her lion’s “mane” by various hurtful habits such as critical words, disrespect, wrong attitudes, and unforgiveness.

As a lion and lioness implement their roles, they complete each other and work toward a common goal, exemplifying marriage as it was intended to be.

Looking back over forty-three years of marriage, I can see the times the razor was buzzing as I attempted to shave off my husband’s mane. Those years were painful, wasteful, and damaging. Miraculously, through God’s divine hand, our marriage survived.

This helpful and insightful look at how turning off the shaver and allowing God to do his redeeming work through you will strengthen your marriage so your husband can become the courageous leader he was called by God to be.

It is so easy to look at a someone’s marriage, and think, they have the perfect relationship. We say things like, “they are always happy and have been together for 40 years! How I want my marriage to be like theirs!” We all do that, don’t we?

We don’t even think about the possibility of trials and struggles that “they” have been through to get to celebrating 40+ years.

You may find yourself relating in a deep and meaningful way as you read the real life, open and candid stories, of Dana’s personal struggles and hurts through her life, and the weaknesses she and Don carried into their marriage. At the same time, you will see the strengths Dana and Don have in their characters, and the growth they received through trials and struggles over those years.

The way this is written is so unique, as Dana relates how the marriage relationship relates to the lion and lioness’s relationship.
Each chapter is specific to an issue or topic and real life story experienced in her and Don’s marriage.
Specific to each issue, she beautifully weaves in how it relates to the lion and lioness and then also to top it off, she shares a specific bible story relationship about that same issue. You might be amazed at how many relationships in the Bible suffered.

At the end of each chapter, there are personal reflection questions, to help in identifying your hurts and issues. And also, a section to journal your thoughts on each topic.
This would be a great book to use for your book club!

I highly recommend this book and believe it will help and heal many marriage issues.
