Christmas Traditions through the Lens of Scripture helps parents find scriptural truths even in secular Christmas traditions. As children mature, the list of related Scriptures included in each day’s entry will help families dig deeper into the beauty and true meaning of the holiday season. Enhanced by full-color illustrations, this book will be your go-to advent devotional for years to come.

Description

Advent is one of the busiest and most commercialized times of the year. The weeks leading up to Christmas are packed full of shopping, gift giving, recitals, parties, holiday movies, and more. It’s easy to get lost in the rush of the season and completely miss the reason for the celebration. How can Christian families keep the focus of their celebration on the birth of Jesus Christ when so much else clamors for attention? This book can help!

Christmas Traditions through the Lens of Scripture is an advent book like no other. For each day of December leading up to Christmas Day, author Marissa Barbee looks at one common element of traditional Christmas celebrations and finds a scriptural tie-in, even for those elements rooted in secular elements. From Christmas trees, candy canes, stars, and decorations to Santa Claus and his reindeer, Marissa helps parents teach their children to look for Jesus in the unexpected details. Each entry includes a “Digging Deeper” listing of related Scripture to boost the day’s reading into a true Bible study.

Full-color illustrations, created by Marissa’s own daughter, enhance this engaging Bible study and are repeated in the back of the book, which may be cut out and used for an advent calendar.

Marissa’s heart and intentional focus to share the true meaning of Christmas makes this book a tremendous tool for families young and old to begin a new family tradition.
I give CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS THROUGH THE LENS OF SCRIPTURE as a gift so that the book and the miracle of Christmas can be passed down for generations.

I enjoyed reading this book these past 3 Christmas seasons, and I heartily recommend it. Marissa Barbee has used the symbols and traditions of Christmas to give the reader the history and deeper meaning behind the celebration. The book provides a devotion for each day of December leading up to Christmas. Marissa’s daughter Miriam creatively illustrated each devotion bringing the reader further into the story. The devotions are appropriate for all ages and direct the reader to the true meaning of Christmas; Emmanuel-God with us. Additionally I purchased copies to give to family and neighbors.

  4. Tina Barbee

This book does a fantastic job showing how we can keep a BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE in the Christmas season and reflect on THE BEST GIFT OF ALL! The examples are laid out so beautifully, that this discipline can be done in daily life through the entire year. I bought some books last year. The recipients loved the illustrations and the examples of how we can keep our focus on Jesus. Planning to buy more this year too!

  5. Susan Thayer

This book is beautifully written and illustrated. . I love that it is was a passion and heart felt vision of a mother and her eldest daughter, using both their God given talents which they wanted to share this with others. It is a book that explains the origin and Christian meaning behind many Christmas traditions, in a very easy to way to understand. It is a wonderful book for The whole family to enjoy together no matter what age. I look forward this year to reread it to my family and making it one of our Christmas traditions.

I've been around Christian publishing since 1987 when I helped our ministry self-publish an important resource for Vietnam veterans and their families. That book went on to be picked up by a royalty publisher and has since sold over 250,000 copies with a million in print.

I'm glad you're here…stop by often and take advantage of all the information we make available.
