Saying YES to God

Saying YES to God can come in many forms: YES to praying more, YES to helping others, and sometimes YES to stepping out when you don’t know where He’s wanting you to go.

Saying YES is scary and not knowing where God is leading can even be a little scarier. But once you let Him take the reins and lead, the scary goes away. You begin to trust in the one true God that will never leave you nor forsake you. He will be your teacher and most importantly, He will make you into the person you were destined to be!

Ten years ago, God called me into ministry. I was fifty-three and thought I was too old, but God said it was just in time to start an amazing adventure with Him. He called me to be a Mother 2 Many and to work with homeless teens. I knew how to be a mom, but I knew nothing about being a mom to homeless teens. I knew God was going to teach me. The assignment He gave was to love His children with no judgement, just love. A love that only He could give me.

After trying to figure out where God wanted us, ten others and I went to a skatepark to find youth. We set up a table with granola bars, juice, hats, gloves, and smiling faces. The first day we saw fifteen kids and one homeless man. We were all excited and ready for whomever would come. The next week, we saw thirty-five youth and we knew after twenty-three months of being taught about homelessness and youth, we were in the right place.

Matthew 25:35-40 shares about the fatherless and the least of these. When we help them, we are helping Jesus. Wow, that hit me! To this day it still makes me cry when I read it. What we do for each of these youth, we are doing this for Him. How could I not say YES.

God never tells you everything all at once. He gives you just enough to not overwhelm you. When you are walking in the direction He wants, He opens doors that you never knew could be open.

After just six months of being at the skatepark, God gave us more parks. Ten years later, Mother 2 Many is at six skateparks, five youth centers, and one after school program, feeding over seven hundred people every week. We continue to grow each year!

We saw Him bless this ministry, but I still had a question for God. “If You told me to reach the homeless youth, why have you only sent a few to us in the past ten years?” His answer was astonishing: “Just because they have a home, doesn’t mean they are not homeless”. That’s so true! Once again, I had another moment of going, “Wow God!”

Saying YES to God doesn’t mean you will know all the answers, and that is ok. God sees something in you and knows that you can do great things with all your life experiences. He showed me from the time I was a little girl, He had been preparing me for this moment. So many things in my life have helped me understand and embrace what He has called me to do. It’s truly amazing!

Is God birthing something in you and you just don’t know what to do? Sometimes we just need to pause and listen to him with intentionality. He birthed this passion in me when I did a fast from sweets for forty days. I heard God clearly and my life has never been the same.

Take a moment to pray and ask God to show you what He desires to do in you.

Father, I pray for a clear vision of what you have for me.
Please open my eyes to what you have for me.
Let my YES be YES and let me never doubt You in this walk.
You are with me always.
In Jesus Name

There are people out there waiting for your YES!

Will you tell Him yes? Will you step out to the unknown?

He is waiting for your answer. I pray it is “YES!”
