Make Room for Revision
Writing Wise: Make Room for Revision
Finishing a draft is worth celebrating. You took an idea and stayed with it long enough to put the words on the page. But sometimes the bravest part comes next: being willing to change them.
Revision can feel uncomfortable. We get attached to a chapter, a sentence, or even the way we originally imagined our book. Yet good writing requires a willingness to step back, listen, and ask what could be stronger.
Revision isn’t a sign that your writing failed. It’s part of making your message the best it can be.
That may mean cutting words you love, rewriting a chapter, receiving feedback, or recognizing that something simply isn’t serving your reader. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s clarity, growth, and faithful stewardship of the message God has entrusted to you.
God shapes us in much the same way. He lovingly reveals what needs attention, invites us to release what no longer belongs, and continues forming us into who He created us to be.
So don’t be afraid to revisit the page. Give yourself permission to refine, change, and strengthen your words. Sometimes what feels like starting over is actually moving forward.
Reflect & Write
Writing Prompt
Choose one paragraph or page from your current project. Read it with fresh eyes and ask: What could be clearer, stronger, or more meaningful for my reader? Rewrite it without worrying about keeping every original word.
Journaling Question
How do you respond when someone suggests a change to your writing? What might help you receive thoughtful feedback as an opportunity for growth rather than criticism?
Scripture to Hold Onto
“Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.” Psalm 86:11, NIV
