Found by the Right Readers: A 3-Part Discoverability Series

This Week's Question:

Do I need to be everywhere for people to find my book?

This week, we're starting a 3-part series called Found by the Right Readers—because one of the biggest misconceptions in book marketing is that more visibility automatically means more readers.

It doesn't.

Being seen by thousands of people who have no reason to care about your book is far less valuable than being discovered by the people who immediately think, "This is exactly what I need."

Over the next three weeks, we're going to look at:

  • Where your right readers already are
  • Who already has their trust
  • What pathways can lead them to your book

So let's start here: If you don't need to be everywhere, where do you need to be?

The answer? Where your right readers are already looking!

Instead of asking: "Where can I promote my book?"

Ask: "Where does my right reader already go for help, information, encouragement, community, or resources?"

That might be a specific podcast, ministry, Facebook group, YouTube channel, church program, support group, newsletter, conference, school, library, or professional organization.

And sometimes a small, highly specific place where your reader already gathers is far more valuable than a large platform filled with people who aren't looking for what your book offers.

Your simple action step:

Think about your reader at the moment he/she is most likely to need your book, then complete these:

He/she is probably looking for help with: _______________________________________________

Three places he/she may already be looking are:

  1. ______________________________________________
  2. ______________________________________________
  3. ______________________________________________

One specific place I can research or begin connecting with this week is: _________________________________________

And make that last answer an actual name.

Not "podcasts." Which podcasts?
Not "ministries." Which ministries?
Not "Facebook groups." Which groups?

Remember, discoverability isn't about being everywhere. The goal is to be findable in the places that matter to the right readers.

Next week in Part 2 of Found by the Right Readers, we'll show you how to identify those trusted connections and why they can become some of your most valuable paths to discoverability.
