Share the Story Behind Your Book’s Dedication

This Week’s Tip: Share the Story Behind Your Book’s Dedication

Your book’s dedication page may only take up a few lines, and honestly, many readers flip past it without a second thought.

But that’s exactly why sharing it outside the book can be so powerful, because when people pause long enough to hear the story behind those few words, it stops them. It draws them closer. It’s a subtle, authentic way to let them see your heart before they even reach the first chapter.

???? Here’s What to Do This Week:

  1. Take a clear photo of your dedication page (or design a simple graphic in Canva).

  2. Write 2–3 heartfelt sentences explaining why you chose that person or group. You don’t have to share every detail—just enough for readers to feel the weight of those words.

  3. Post it on social media, in your email newsletter, or both. You could say something like: “Before the first page, there’s a story worth telling. This book is dedicated to my grandmother, who prayed me through every season and taught me what grace looks like."

  4. Invite engagement. End with a question like: “Who would you dedicate a book to if you wrote one?”

???? Why This Works:

  • It deepens connection. Readers feel like they’re being let into something personal and sacred.

  • It draws them into your “why.” When people understand the heart behind your words, they’re more likely to value them.

  • It’s shareable. People tagged in dedications often share the post with their own networks—extending your reach naturally.

Try it this week! Pull out your book, snap that photo, and let readers see the heartbeat behind the dedication. You might be surprised by how many people comment, share, and feel drawn closer to your message before they’ve even opened the first chapter.

As always ... cheering you on,
Shelly, Athena & Carol
