Pro-Football-Player-Turned Minister Advises on Winning in New Release
Enumclaw, WA—David Akers knows about football and winning. The former place kicker was selected for the Pro Bowl six times in his career, played in the Super Bowl twice, and at one point was tied for the longest field goal in NFL history. First signed by the Carolina Panthers in 1997, he also played for the Atlanta Falcons, Washington Redskins, Berlin Thunder, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, and Detroit Lions, he is considered one of the best kickers in history.
Akers also knows about hard times and failures. In his new release, Winning In Spite Of: Nine Biblical Principles for Turning Hard Times into Personal Growth, Increased Impact, and Abundant Life (Redemption Press, August 2016) he shares his personal formula for winning—God’s way—in spite of hardships. Through family health issues, professional setbacks, financial loss, and grappling with personal and professional failure, Akers has emerged as a more effective and influential husband, father, professional, businessman, and Christ follower. Akers, now an ordained minister, and leader of David Akers Ministries, says, “Everybody goes through hard times. You can be a winner in spite of your hardships and failures.”
Winning in Spite Of presents biblical truths brought to life with examples from Aker’s life. Not just for sports fans, Akers shares a behind-the-scenes view of professional football, but also writes about the struggles found in families, relationships, and careers. He shows how a biblical view of suffering can increase one’s personal impact in the lives of others. Akers says, “I wanted to let people know that sometimes the world says we are losing, but with an eternal perspective we are wining in spite of those challenges and short comings.”
Francis Chan, pastor and author, says, “David Akers has been an outspoken and consistent testimony of the gospel through times of glory and trials.” Brian Dawkins, nine-time pro-bowl safety with the Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos, who was Akers’ teammate for most of Dawkins’ 13-year career with the Philadelphia Eagles, says, “David lived out his faith on the field, in the locker room, and in every other part of his life. When David says something, it speaks volumes because his life backs it up.”

Meet the Publisher
I've been around Christian publishing since 1987 when I helped our ministry self-publish an important resource for Vietnam veterans and their families. That book went on to be picked up by a royalty publisher and has since sold over 250,000 copies with a million in print.
I'm glad you're here…stop by often and take advantage of all the information we make available.
