Has Interest in Your Book Stalled? Here’s What to Do Next

It's time for another simple book marketing tip you can actually use ... without adding another full-time job to your week.

This week, we're answering a question many authors eventually ask.

This Week's Question:

What do I do when my book has been out for a while and interest has stalled?

First, PLEASE don't assume your book's opportunity has passed!

Your book may no longer be new, but the problem it addresses, the question it answers, or the encouragement it offers may be just as relevant today as it was when you wrote it.

Sometimes an older book does not need another launch. It simply needs a new reason to enter the conversation.

Instead of simply asking: "How can I promote my book again?"

Ask yourself: "What is my reader dealing with right now that my book can speak into?"

For example:

  • A book about grief may become especially relevant around the holidays, anniversaries, or when a well-known loss brings grief into public conversation.

  • A book about marriage could speak into loneliness, communication struggles, rebuilding trust, or preparing for marriage.

  • A parenting book might connect with back-to-school stress, technology concerns, anxiety, or family transitions.

  • A devotional about trusting God could speak directly to a season of waiting, uncertainty, disappointment, or unanswered prayer.

You are no longer trying to convince people to pay attention to an older book. You are joining a conversation that already matters to them.

Your simple action step:

Finish this sentence:

My book matters right now because readers are still struggling with, wondering about, or needing help with ____________________________.

Now choose one specific angle from your answer and use it this week.

You might:

  • write an email around it
  • share a short encouragement or story
  • record a brief video
  • pitch it as a podcast conversation
  • reach out to a ministry or organization serving people facing that issue

Your goal is to say something helpful enough that the right reader immediately thinks: "I need this!"

Your book does not have an expiration date! BUT ... sometimes it needs a fresh doorway back into the conversation.
