Even as a young child, I loved nature. Be it the water, the grass, or the skies, all of God’s creation fascinated me. From staring at the clouds, playing in the sand or pulling out my telescope to look at the stars with my Dad, I found myself drawn to the beauty of the world around me.

Interacting with God’s creation also fueled my already active imagination. Having significantly older siblings and being the youngest, I often had to entertain myself, which only heightened my appreciation for His handiwork. As I became an adult, I found it amazing to know that the God who created the heavens and the earth also gave us the gift of creativity and imagination.

Psalm 24:1 says, “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof; the world and they that dwell therein.” So even as we create, we can know it is an extension of His beauty and creation as well.

In addition to loving nature as a child, I also loved stories and truthfully, still do. I have fond memories of my mom reading books to me at bedtime, which is likely where my love for children’s books began. I still think of our trips together to the local library and find secret delight in using my library card.

In my high school years, I would develop an even deeper love of story after receiving a short story assignment in one of my English classes. It was this assignment that first planted the idea of someday writing a children’s book. Now 20 years later, I am living out that dream, stepping out in faith, and getting out of my comfort zone to do something I’ve never done before.

Showing readers the creativity of our Father through the eyes of a child, Our Creative Father employs all five senses so even children of a young age can know who created the world around them. It is my prayer that every child who picks up this book will know he or she is also made and loved by the same Father who made the heavens and the earth.
