A 3-Part Discoverability Series — Part 3
Found by the Right Readers: A 3-Part Discoverability Series — Part 3
This Week's Question:
My book is on Amazon. Isn't that enough for readers to find it?
Over the past two weeks, we've talked about two important parts of discoverability:
First, where your right readers are already looking.
Then, who is already serving them and has their trust.
Now we need to connect those two things to your book.
Because even if your book is beautifully published and available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or through Ingram, that does not mean the right readers will automatically discover it.
Availability is not the same as discoverability.
Think of Amazon as the store.
Your marketing needs to create the pathways that help the right readers get there.
That pathway might begin with:
- A podcast interview
- A ministry partnership
- A speaking engagement
- A helpful YouTube video
- A guest article
- Your email list
- A church or support-group recommendation
- A book club or Bible study
So here's a question worth asking about every marketing activity you're considering:
What path does this create between my right reader and my book?
Posting "My book is available!" again and again doesn't create much of a path. But appearing on a podcast your reader already trusts and talking about the very problem your book helps address? That does!
Your simple action step:
Choose one place or trusted connection you identified during the past two weeks.
Then map the pathway:
My right reader discovers me through: __________________________
From there, I want her to: __________________________________
That next step leads naturally to my book by: ____________________
Then ask yourself: Is that pathway clear and easy to follow?
If not, strengthen it.
Maybe your podcast bio needs a better link. Maybe your website needs a clearer next step. Maybe a ministry partner needs a simple resource page or book link to share.
Over these three weeks, we've asked you to think about discoverability differently:
- Where are my right readers already looking?
- Who already is serving them and has their trust?
- What pathway can lead them naturally to my book?
You do not need to be everywhere. You simply need to make it easier for the right readers to find you in the places that matter, and then know exactly where they are to go next.
We'd love to hear what stood out to you in this series. Maybe you've already taken action, or maybe you've tucked an idea away for the right season. Either way, comment below and tell us.
