Even a GREAT Book Won’t Sell Itself!
It's time for another simple book marketing tip you can actually use ... without adding another full-time job to your week. 😊
This week, we're addressing a question that frustrates a LOT of authors.
This Week's Question:
"I worked so hard to write and publish my book. Why isn't it selling?"
Here's a truth every author needs to understand: Even a GREAT book won't sell itself!
Publishing makes your book available. Marketing gives people a reason to want it. And there's a BIG difference!
Too often, authors put tremendous effort into writing, publishing, and launching their books, only to see sales slow down or never really take off.
But here's what we want you to understand: Your book isn't necessarily the problem. It may simply not be getting enough meaningful invitations into readers' lives.
People rarely buy a book just because it exists. They buy because something about it speaks to a need, answers a question, sparks their curiosity, or promises an experience they want.
And it's YOUR job to help them make that connection!
Your simple action step:
Stop simply telling people about your book. Start giving them a compelling reason to read it!
Here's how:
1. Identify ONE reason someone needs or wants your book. Think beyond what your book is about. What is your reader struggling with, longing for, curious about, or hoping to experience?
2. Turn that reason into a personal invitation.
Instead of: "My book is available on Amazon! Here's the link!"
Try something like: "If you're caring for an aging parent and quietly wrestling with guilt over the decisions you're making, I wrote this book with you in mind. I want you to know you're not alone, and there's grace for this difficult season. Here's where you can find it."
See the difference? You're giving someone a reason to care.
3. Make THREE intentional invitations this week. Share that message with your email subscribers, in a relevant social media post, or in a natural conversation with someone who would genuinely benefit. Always make the next step to purchase easy.
And don't stop after one week! Find fresh reasons to invite readers, and keep showing up consistently.
One final thought... Your book can't make a difference in the life of someone who never reads it.
You invested your heart, time, and resources into writing that book because you believed its message or story mattered. Don't stop short of helping it reach the people you wrote it for. Marketing isn't something you do after the important work is finished. It's part of the important work!
Now, comment below and tell us: What's ONE compelling reason someone should read your book? We'd love to hear it!
