About The Book

Imagine that you and your two best friends just boarded a flight to your destiny. You pull out work and become so engrossed that you are startled when the final approach to your destiny is announced. Looking around, your two friend’s seats are empty! They are no longer on the flight. Sound like fantasy?

Sadly, this story represents the statistics that only one in three modern leaders will finish their life journey and fulfill their purpose well. While some leaders will fulfill their divine destiny, some will limp to their life’s end, and others will fail miserably. There is a strategy to arrest this growing trend in leadership. The Uncommon Leader explores this strategy by examining:

  • God’s plan and processes for developing a leader,
  • How following Christ’s leadership style and being empowered by the Holy Spirit will

enable leaders to fulfill God’s design for their leadership, and

  • The enemy’s counterplan to derail a leader’s life.

Every leader will benefit from The Uncommon Leader’s interactive format, which includes illustrative stories, insights, cautions, and personal reflection exercises. This is not a quick fix book, but rather a time-tested, winning strategy for finishing well.

Quotes from The Uncommon Leader

A faithful and successful, godly life for a leader takes a lifetime of development with life training and work: circumstances—good and bad, successes and failures, and growing in the maturity and the wisdom of God. Only after years of fashioning your character and abilities through training and testing can the Lord trust any of us to make the impact He’s ultimately created us for.

Once I wasn’t just looking at the current circumstances and feeling out of sorts, and understood God’s design for boundaries, I embraced the preparatory work God was doing in me through the boundary that would set me up for success in the next phase of life.

Often, I have found that God’s shaping activities including tests, suffering, and obedience choices, required my acquiescence. The circumstances were not always painless or the choices simple to make, but in counting the cost of life with Christ, and without, my submission to the process became an easy decision.

As followers and disciples of Christ, we, too, are expected to learn our rabbi’s ways so intimately that those around us will know who we represent without actually seeing Christ.

Christ’s disciples received this gift of the Holy Spirit, which made all the difference in their lives and ministry. This same gift is promised to all who come to Christ. As leaders, it’s important to recognize how important this gift is and place high value on it.

Character is critical in God’s eyes because it reveals to others who we are. Character becomes part of the bedrock that gives us the secure footing we need to navigate through the challenges of life and the pressures of leadership.

There are so many things in our shadow that can lead us astray if we don’t vigilantly allow the Holy Spirit to divinely prune away our heart issues. The failings that ensue are tragic ... and regrettably, could have been prevented.

In our high-paced, performance-driven, and overachieving culture, it’s hard to recognize that our lives are out of balance and unsustainable for true God-ordained success.

Creating balance in your life is an important way to guarantee your leadership success and develop a partnership with the Holy Spirit.
