Your Book Won’t Sell Itself—But Here’s What Will

This Week’s Tip (#28): Your Book Won’t Sell Itself—But Here’s What Will

Let’s tackle a myth many authors secretly hope is true:
“If my book is good, it will sell itself.”

Here’s the hard truth: it won’t. Even the best-written, most powerful book needs a voice to carry it. Otherwise, it just sits quietly on the shelf.

But here’s the good news ... you don’t have to be “salesy” to spread the word. You simply need to get your message into motion.

???? Here’s What to Do This Week:

  1. Write down three places where your ideal reader already hangs out. (Examples: a Facebook group, a local church ministry, a podcast they’d listen to, a community event.)
  2. Choose one simple step to show up there this week. Post an encouraging excerpt, comment on someone’s need with a tip from your book, pitch a podcast or email the leader offering a free copy.
  3. Always end with a gentle invitation. Not “Buy my book!” but “If this encouraged you, there’s more in [Book Title].

???? Why This Works:

  • Readers won’t buy a book they don’t know exists. (A “Captain Obvious” statement)
  • Showing up where they already are makes you visible without being pushy.
  • Small, consistent steps compound into big momentum.

Remember: A book isn’t a self-seller—it’s a seed. And seeds only grow when they’re planted.

Cheering you on,
Shelly, Athena & Carol
