This Week’s Tip: Let Your Message Matter More Than Your Metrics

It’s Monday, and you know what that means — another simple, helpful tip to help you grow as an author without the overwhelm.

But like last week, today’s tip is a little different.

We’re pausing the how-to’s and the strategies for just a moment … because before you plan for 2026, set goals, build campaigns, or refine your marketing rhythm — your heart needs the right posture.

And if you’re anything like most authors we talk with, this might be the message you didn’t know you needed today.

This Week’s Tip: Let Your Message Matter More Than Your Metrics

If you caught this week’s fUNfiltered episode (click here to watch on YouTube), you already know we got real. We talked about Amazon ranks, dashboards, expectations, disappointments — and that sinking feeling when the numbers don’t match the effort you poured into your book.

But here’s the shift we want you to carry into the new year:

Your value as a writer doesn’t rise and fall with your dashboard.
Your message didn’t become “less important” because your rank dropped.
And your book didn’t lose its power because a spreadsheet didn’t reflect it.

Metrics are loud, but they’re not honest.

They don’t measure the mom who cried through your chapter.
They don’t measure the woman who felt understood for the first time in months.
They don’t measure the person who whispered, “This is exactly what I needed today.”

They can’t.

Your message lives in a world metrics can’t touch.

What to Do This Week: A Heart Reset Before the New Year

Do this one simple, gentle action:

Write down the name (or description) of ONE person your book has helped.

A reader.
A woman from your Bible study.
Someone who messaged you quietly.
Or even the version of you who needed this message first.

Then ask yourself:

“If this book helped even one person … was it worth writing?”

Because the truth?
It was.
And it still is.

Marketing matters — absolutely.
But the message God entrusted to you matters more.
And if you start your year anchored in that truth, you’ll show up from a place of purpose instead of pressure.

Why This Works:

  • It shifts your focus from performance to people — the place where real impact happens.
  • It quiets the noise long enough for clarity (and joy!) to rise again.
  • It helps you set healthier goals for the new year — goals based on stewardship, not stress.
  • It reminds you why God asked you to share this message in the first place.

A Question for You (We’d love to hear this one):

Who is the ONE person you picture when you think about the heart behind your book?

Please comment below and tell us.
We’d genuinely love to hear about them.

You never know… simply remembering that one reader might be the encouragement you needed to keep going today.

With so much gratitude,
Shelly, Athena & Carol
