About The Book

A fellow traveler reflects on the seasons of life and learning to trust Jesus with every outcome. Every day, down-to-earth experiences of growing up in the Inland Northwest, from cowpies and sneaking out to fellow workers, elk hunting, hardy families, and log cabin building are paired with the glories of God’s creations, and the wonders of His character are expressed in humorous and poignant prose and poetry.

These delightful meditations on finding God in the everyday give us a window into the challenges of big country, the characters of the land, and the majesty of God in fresh, compelling language.

About The Book

Meditations and poems for fellow seekers, trekkers, and wanderers, and those desperate for a glimpse, a moment, an encounter with the living God.

A fellow traveler reflects on life lessons, steps of faith, and experiences through prose and poetry. Poems on faith and the glories of God’s creations are introduced by relevant vignettes about down-to-earth topics such as growing up in the inland Northwest, ranch families, fellow workers, open-hearted rural churches, elk hunting, log cabin building, huckleberry picking and bears, rural characters, and justice.

These delightful, often humorous meditations on finding God in the everyday give us a taste of the outdoors, the wonder of creation, and the majesty of God in fresh, compelling language.

A Litany of Praise is the first of a three-book series titled Throughline.  The second book, Seasons of Faith, should be released in the spring of 2025 followed by a third book, The Gifted, to follow in 2026-2027.  The idea for the series came from a verse, “Throughline,” in the third book The Gifted.

Jesus is the Throughline of Our Story

Chapter to Chapter, Book to Book…

Mitch Smith’s poetry in A Litany of Praise was a breath of fresh air. More than once, I put the book down to reflect on my own encounters with God in everyday life. Thank you, Mitch, for sharing your gift with us!

Quotes from... Seasons of Faith

I have a desire to live my faith as I lived my life before encountering Jesus, always on the edge. Always attempting new things—new adventures and new challenges. Becoming that “over the edge” style of leader that is so different from typical worldly leadership—to lead like Jesus.

All my seasons belong to You, Lord/ You are the joy of my heart//the wonder of my existence. /Lord God, You are my heritage/ the heritage of my children, my children’s children to all their generations./ From beginning to beginning, steadfast is the love of the Lord.

As a family and as a nation, I have found that blessings come to all of us who labor for a common goal—for a common purpose. My family heritage, all that I hold dear, is tied to my faith. Learning to trust our Great King in every circumstance while embracing the importance of placing another’s needs before my own is truly a work in progress.

Recalling my wild and rebellious period that extended way beyond my teenage years proves an effective reminder to pray for my grandsons earnestly and often. To pray wisdom and blessing into their lives; the great privilege that is ours as heirs to the kingdom of God.

Big country is as much a part of me as I am of it. Those undeveloped landscapes provide opportunity to test personal limits of ability and understanding. What you don’t know will kill you.

Humans do not write the rules in the wilderness. Our Creator placed them there for our discovery, curious lessons into the very nature and character of the Almighty.

Big country is where I go to have fellowship with our Creator God.
