A Litany of Praise by Mitchell W Smith

A Litany of Praise: Encountering God in the Everyday

5/5

About The Book

Meditations and poems for fellow seekers, trekkers, and wanderers, and those desperate for a glimpse, a moment, an encounter with the living God.

A fellow traveler reflects on life lessons, steps of faith, and experiences through prose and poetry. Poems on faith and the glories of God’s creations are introduced by relevant vignettes about down-to-earth topics such as growing up in the inland Northwest, ranch families, fellow workers, open-hearted rural churches, elk hunting, log cabin building, huckleberry picking and bears, rural characters, and justice.

These delightful, often humorous meditations on finding God in the everyday give us a taste of the outdoors, the wonder of creation, and the majesty of God in fresh, compelling language.

A Litany of Praise is the first of a three-book series titled Throughline.  The second book, Seasons of Faith, should be released in the spring of 2025 followed by a third book, The Gifted, to follow in 2026-2027.  The idea for the series came from a verse, “Throughline,” in the third book The Gifted.

Chapter to Chapter, Book to Book…

Mitch Smith’s poetry in A Litany of Praise was a breath of fresh air. More than once, I put the book down to reflect on my own encounters with God in everyday life. Thank you, Mitch, for sharing your gift with us!

Quotes from... A Litany of Praise: Encountering God in the Everyday

Seekers share one commonality, they want to encounter the living God and would give anything, anything, for just a glimpse—a moment in the presence of our Great God.
I have found that there is nothing more humbling than the exploration of creation; opportunity to discover the very nature of our Creator.

O Lord, bless me in forest and bless me in field. Bless me on the mountain and bless me in the meadow. Bless me in my hunting and bless me with a miraculous catch. Bless me in waking
and bless me in my sleep.

It is in those precious moments of humble reflection that eternal perspectives are gained—every life is precious, a priceless gift from our heavenly Father deserving all praise and honor.

Prayer—real prayer—is a conversation with God, not a one sided, “hope someone or something in the cosmos is listening” sort of appeal.

Becoming a sojourner is about stepping away from a simplistic physical understanding of the world and into the realm of spiritual reality—a view to the physical through the lens of eternal existence.

The Lord is my compass, I will not wander aimlessly.

Without God, it is impossible to navigate life’s constantly changing landscapes. The tangles wear us down. Human works are ill-conceived and desperate by all comparison, the rallying cry of greed is always “more.”
