Scripture references, specific for each prayer, underscore the thesis of the writer that pain can become our ally instead of our adversary. Pain is portrayed as at first an unwelcome guest in our lives. Then, contrary to common practice, theAuthor, in her own experience, embraced pain as one who brought her closer to God. These prayer poems were written over a span of several years during which the writer suffered intensely. Her account of how she came to terms with this intruder will encourage chronic pain sufferers to reevaluate their circumstances. The values incorporated in these poetic prayers are enormous for those who seek to make sense out of suffering. Amelia Brumm served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict and later became a social worker in the Department of Social Services. Her positions have included being a caseworker, counselor, and student intern clinical instructor. She’s observed the suffering of others as well as her own. She lives with her husband, Dr. Lynn F, Brumm, in East Lansing, Michigan.
